How can I prepare my students for a career?

Many students need guidance when it comes to choosing and preparing for a career. As an educator, you may not always have all of the answers. The following resources will help you give your students the tools they need to get started on their career path.

  • Career Coaches
Career Coaches are available to speak to your students. As experts in the field of career pathways, they can help your students discover the best career choices for them and get them on the right path for that career. Career Coaches are available to speak to your entire class or to work one-on-one with your students. See the Career Coaches page, for more information.
  • Online Career Resources
There are many great resources available online that can help your students learn about different careers. Additionally, many of these websites include teaching resources that you can use in your classroom. Visit the Useful Links page for a listing of career exploration websites.
  • Edge Student Leadership Program
In additional to career exploration and information, you can aid your students in their pathway to success by encouraging them to apply for the Decatur-Morgan County Chamber of Commerce’s Edge Student Leadership Program. This program provides leadership training opportunities to high school students. See the Decatur-Morgan County Chamber of Commerce section of the Resource Guide for more information about this program.
  • Career and Workforce Expo
Have your student attend the Career and Workforce Expo. This event features over 50 local business and industries to speak one-on-one with students about careers at their facilities.
  • Junior Achievement of North Alabama
Junior Achievement programs offer a wide variety of programs in Kindergarten through 12th grade, in a fun and effective way. Programs use age-appropriate hands-on curricula to teach students about workforce readiness, entrepreneurship and financial literacy. JA programs are offered both during the school day directly in the classroom, as well as in after-school and summer settings.
